Project Sidewalks offers training programs to help students improve their job skills. It also empowers individuals with disabilities to speak up for better access in their communities, helping them build essential leadership and technical skills for their future careers. The curriculum includes five modules that support youth in transition and workforce development programs.
Participate in a Workforce Pilot Program Focusing on Accessible Sidewalks
Is it difficult for your participants to navigate across your community because sidewalks are in poor condition? Do your participants have difficulty accessing community services and employment because ramps and pathways are difficult to access?
Easterseals is a partner to the University of Washington, and University of Illinois – Chicago to implement a youth-focused workforce pilot program. Project Sidewalk uses crowdsourcing to collect information about sidewalk accessibility. We are seeking Easterseals affiliate sites, who offer youth transition programs, to engage in the pilot. Youth will improve their advocacy skills regarding ADA and sidewalk accessibility, develop digital literacy skills that can be integrated in career and workforce programs, and improve their job readiness. We have a small stipend for facilitators and gift cards for youth participants. Join the national office in this important National Science Foundation project that seeks to improve the ability of individuals with disabilities to navigate across their community.
